Introduction The Criminal
Justice Training Center, in partnership with the
San Diego Regional Training
Center and the
California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training
has created the Instructor Development Institute. This program offers
4 levels of instructor development training for law enforcement agencies and
training centers throughout California including a basic, intermediate, and
two levels of advanced training. The basic course is the Academy
Instructor Certificate Course (AICC). The completion of all
four
levels of training qualifies at the same level as the former P.O.S.T. Master
Instructor Development Program. Many of these classes are offered free of
charge to law enforcement instructors working within the P.O.S.T. system.

Napa Valley College provides the
basic and
intermediate level courses included in the Instructor Development
Institute. These courses are coordinated by
Todd
Dischinger who is a graduate of the P.O.S.T. Master Instructor
Development Program. His team includes 8 other instructors from
around the state who are recognized subject matter experts. The
entire team is committed to improving the quality of instruction and
training for law enforcement in California. In addition, we offer
program assessment and a coaching and mentoring process for newly
trained instructors. For more information about these services,
email Todd Dischinger,
or call 707-333-8290.

The 40-hour Academy Instructor
Certificate Course (AICC) provides essential and required instructional
and facilitation skills for anyone teaching in a basic academy. Students
will learn through hands-on experience in a highly active learning
environment. This course meets the training mandate for the P.O.S.T.
Academy Instructor Certification Course. This offering emerged from the
POST Facilitation Skills Course for Instructors, and has been expanded
to meet all requirements (including competence verification) of POST
mandates for instructor training. Included is a comprehensive study of
contemporary adult learning methodologies, paralanguage, critical
thinking, taxonomies of learning, presentation and platform skills. |
