INTRODUCTION
TO PUBLIC SAFETY PROFESSIONS
"How To Get A Job As A Police Officer, Firefighter, or
Paramedic"

PURPOSE:
|
This
course is designed for students interested in exploring public
safety professions including firefighting, law enforcement, 9-1-1
dispatching, para-medicine, and the legal profession.
Students will participate in a variety of self-assessments to
identify career aptitudes, physical readiness, and personal
history/background investigation preparation.
Instruction will include job search strategies, how to
prepare a resume, and interviewing skills. Students
will learn about the public safety services system, basic training
academies, and will be exposed to jobs available at the city,
county, state, and federal level.
Students will complete a career path plan that includes a
detailed analysis and identification of the educational and training
required to achieve the individual student’s career goals.

This
course is ideal for high school students, first year college
students, or older adults who are considering a career change. The course is designed specifically to help students
plan for a career in public safety service.

INSTRUCTORS:
|
The
lead facilitator of this course is the Director of the Criminal
Justice Training Center, Greg Miraglia.
The course will include presentations by a Fire Chief, Police
Officers, a 9-1-1 Dispatcher, a Fish and Game Warden, a Paramedic, a
District Attorney, a Lawyer, and other members of law enforcement
and public safety services.

REGISTRATION:

Students may register for this class directly through
the Office of Admissions and Records at the college. Registration
takes place during the normal registration period for the college.
All fees must be paid in full to reserve a seat in this class.
