The Criminal Justice Training Center offers some courses that are presented entirely online. These classes are listed with the others on the Class Schedule page. You can register and pay for these classes entirely online and immediately gain access to the class to start training.
Online courses are open and available for the duration of the dates listed. In all cases, the course must be completed by the end date of the course. No extensions will be provided. Course fees for online courses are due at the time of registration and are final and non-refundable for any reason.
Our online courses are presented on the Canvas learning management system. Students can access the course from any computer (PC or MAC) with Internet access. No special software is required. We recommend use of the Firefox or Chrome browser for the best experience.
Online classes certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training require students to complete an electronic P.O.S.T. roster. Students are required to attest that the name and P.O.S.T. ID number of the person listed on the roster is the same as the person completing the course work.
Law enforcement personnel from outside of California are welcomed and encouraged to take our online courses. You do not need a California P.O.S.T. ID number to participate, but you will not receive P.O.S.T. credit for the course. You will still receive a course completion certificate.
NEW! The Criminal Justice Training Center received grant funding from California P.O.S.T. to develop and present two online training courses for employees of California P.O.S.T. participating agencies. These special courses are open and available to civilian and sworn members of California P.O.S.T. agencies at no cost. A P.O.S.T. ID number is required at the time of registration. The classes include:
- LGBT Awareness For Law Enforcement Training For Trainers (8 hours)
Download an informational brochure on the 13519.41PC training requirements
Click here to inquire about LGBT Awareness For California Law Enforcement for your entire agency
- Hate Crimes Investigations (8 hours)
You will see these special classes noted in the class schedule.
All of our online courses are interactive and include a variety of learning activities similar to those used in the face-to-face version of the same class. Students must complete all of the assigned work and may be required to pass tests in order to complete the course and earn a certificate.
Training managers may register and pay for students using credit card and PayPal. Once payment is completed, you will receive a link to download course registration and access instructions that can be given to the participating student.
